Introducing a new Fraxel: Fraxel Dual for uneven pigmentation and melasma
If you are concerned about melasma or uneven pigmentation of your face, neck, hands or the chest, now there is a solution for you.
What kind of results can you expect from new Fraxel re:store Dual treatments?
The magnitude of visible improvement varies from subtle to dramatic. Patients can experience:
- Erasing of unwanted brown spots and uneven pigmentation (melasma)
- Smoother, fresher, younger looking skin
- Improved tone and texture
- Reduced fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
- Improved appearance of acne scars and surgical scars
Fraxel introduces a completely new wavelength that allows for predictable and consistent improvement in the dark patches and uneven pigmentation of the skin including melasma. The current Fraxel Restore technology at Genesis allowed for improvement in the wrinkles but only a modest improvement in the quality of the uneven pigmentation. Fraxel, now has introduced a new wavelength that specifically targets uneven pigmentation. This wavelength allows for consistent corrections in uneven pigmentation. It works by eliminating the uneven pigments over 4-7 days. Although Fraxel has a great reputation worldwide, I wanted to see the extent of improvement myself. I therefore put it to test.
On September 1st 2010, we performed Fraxel Dual on seven test patients, including my wife and myself (yes, I was brave enough to do it too). I was pleasantly surprised by the significant improvement in the quality of the skin and the uniformity of the complexion, following just one treatment.
So, I am including photos of some of these patients (see above and below) after their first Fraxel dual wavelength treatment. These are untouched photos one to three weeks after their treatment. You can see the extent of change for yourself.
The new Fraxel Dual has two wavelengths, the 1550nm from the previous Fraxel Restore which helps in improving wrinkles and a new wavelength of 1927 nm which improves the complexion. So you can use the 1927 by itself for uneven pigmentation or a combination of 1927 and 1550 if you have uneven pigmentation and wrinkles too.
The great news: You can use the new wavelength for treating uneven pigmentation of the neck, chest and for hands too.

- What’s new about the Fraxel re:store Dual procedure?
-
The new non-ablative Fraxel re:store Dual system takes the industry leading Fraxel® technology to the highest level of effectiveness by adding a new laser wavelength that is optimized to treat pigment and other surface skin imperfections. The new wavelength is more comfortable, and now for the first time Fraxel can be used on larger treatment areas and multiple body areas in a single treatment.
- How does the Fraxel re:store Dual procedure work?
-
The Fraxel re:store Dual laser is a non-ablative treatment which targets aging and sun-damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into your skin to expedite your body’s remodeling of collagen. And since the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, it leaves the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes rapid healing. Fraxel re:store Dual treatment resurfaces your skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out.
- What does the Fraxel re:store Dual procedure feel like?
-
Most patients describe an increased heat sensation during the treatment. To minimize discomfort, topical anesthesia is applied before the procedure and cooling is built directly into the new handpiece for improved comfort. After the treatment, most patients feel like they have a sunburn that usually subsides in 1 to 3 hours.
- How long does the Fraxel re:store Dual procedure take?
-
The treatment takes just 20 to 25 minutes for a full face with additional time for anesthetic application.
- What will my skin feel like after the procedure?
-
After the procedure, you will have some degree of redness, swelling or a sunburn sensation, which are signs that your body's natural healing process is building new skin from the inside out.
- How long will the results last?
-
It depends on your particular condition and how you care for your skin. Once your skin is treated, continue to protect the surface as directed. For conditions such as melasma, it is very important to avoid direct sun exposure. We will give you specific advice based on your individual needs.
- Is the Fraxel re:store Dual procedure safe?
-
Fraxel has an excellent safety record. Of course, as with any procedure there’s always some risks. We can discuss this with you during your consultation.
- How much does the Fraxel re:store Dual procedure cost?
-
The cost for the Fraxel procedure depends on the areas being treated. We will discuss this or at the time of the consultation. You are welcome to call 405 340 9949 for an estimate.
- How many treatments will I need?
-
Most patients with uneven pigmentation with minimal wrinkles will need one to two treatments. Those with both uneven pigmentation and wrinkles will need four treatments. A determination will be made at the time of consultation.
- Is Fraxel re:store Dual FDA cleared?
-
The Fraxel re:store laser is FDA cleared for the treatment of pigmented lesions, acne scars, melasma, mild to moderate wrinkles around the eyes, surgical scars and actinic keratosis (sun damage).
- What is the downtime from this Fraxel Dual wavelength?
-
With the 1927 wavelength for uneven pigmentation you will have your skin peel over 3-5 days. You will get an appearance of sunburn (minus the pain) for 5-7 days. It is unlikely for you to have any significant blistering or oozing and you could apply makeup after a few days.
FRAXEL-II® LASER TREATMENT Fraxel 1550 wavelength

Now performing Fraxel for nearly four years and an experience of over 300 procedures. One of the most experienced and advanced team in OKC

Fraxel II can now go very deep (70 microns) to get rid of wrinkles and acne scars
With today’s emphasis on active, healthy lifestyles, most men and women feel a lot younger than they look. Aging and sun-damaged skin, wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes, and brown spots often mask their inner beauty. Fortunately, there is a new aesthetic laser solution that provides a fresh chance to turn back the clock on aging.
Dr. Panchal at Genesis Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa is pleased to be one of the earliest physicians in the world to offer Fraxel Laser Treatment. Fraxel Laser Treatment can be used to improve conditions present in superficial and deeper layers of the skin. FDA-cleared indications include:
- skin resurfacing to reduce wrinkles on face and neck;
- treatment of wrinkles around the eyes;
- treatment of pigmented lesions, such as age spots, sun spots, and vmelasma.
- treatment of scars resulting from acne, surgery, or trauma
After Fraxel Laser Treatment, skin generally feels softer, looks smoother and tighter, and pores are usually smaller.
To appreciate the benefits of Fraxel Laser Treatment, think of a family portrait or digital photograph in need of high-quality restoration or touch-up. Just as a damaged painting is delicately restored one area at a time, or a photographic image is altered, pixel by pixel, the Fraxel laser improves your appearance by affecting only a fraction of your skin at a time with thousands of microscopic laser spots. It’s like digital photo-editing software for your skin!
“The unique ‘fractional’ approach is a huge step forward in providing significant cosmetic results with minimal downtime,” says Dr. Panchal. “This advanced treatment is the first cosmetic laser to provide an effective, gradual procedure that creates new healthy tissue by stimulating the body to naturally repair aging and photo-damaged skin without significant risks or recovery time.”
Fraxel Laser Treatment can be performed in our office using topical anesthesia. Treatment takes about 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area(s) being treated. Because the procedure does not “ablate” or remove the outer skin layer, patients can resume routine activities right after treatment. There is no skin breakdown or any weeping or peeling of the skin. Swelling is minimal and generally resolves in about 2 days. The skin will have a pinkish tone for 5 to 7 days.
For optimal improvement, a series of 3 to 5 treatments spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart has been shown to be most effective. Results are both immediate and progressive, with noticeable, beneficial effects accumulating over 1 to 3 months.
We are the only location on the state of OK where we take your picture on a special Visia Skin care system under uniform lighting. This allows us to see exactly what nature of the damage on your face is and customize your treatment. What’s more – we can compare your pictures before an after the treatment so you can see for yourself how Fraxel has helped your complexion and reduced your sun damage too.
